In 2017, while on a medical mission to Asia,
Makana Masks founder David Mathews, MD, observed cyclists and pedestrians using ineffective paper surgical masks to protect themselves from badly polluted air. He also saw streets strewn with discarded masks on their way to landfills or the ocean. Inspired, he set out to design a comfortable, reusable face mask that would fully protect the wearer against pollution, industrial pollutants, and viruses.
After a dozen iterations, the Makana Mask was born. Today, Makana Masks are available in two sizes, with two filter options, and with unlimited possible colors and patterns.
David’s mission has never wavered: to create the most effective, environmentally friendly, and versatile face mask available.
